Manual Therapy (Hands-on Treatment)

Manual therapy is a specialized physical therapy treatment that allows our certified physical therapists to manipulate joints and soft tissue with nothing more than their hands. That’s right – no intimidating equipment or machines, just hands. This form of treatment helps in relieving pain, decreasing restriction, mobilizing joints, reducing swelling, and increasing your range of motion.

Therapeutic Exercise

Therapeutic exercise is a great way to restore function and live a pain-free life. Therapeutic exercise provides a multitude of benefits for anyone wishing to restore their strength, endurance, flexibility, or stability. In fact, physical therapy is used as a treatment for any pain, injury, or ailment someone may be facing.

Spinal Manipulation

Spinal manipulation helps relieve pressure on joints, reduce inflammation, and improve nerve function. It is a gentle, hands-on form of manual therapy that focuses on evaluating and enhancing the spine. Almost every function in your body is directly connected to the health of your spine, and spinal manipulation could effectively provide relief.

Taylor Meredith, DPT

Hi, my name is Taylor Meredith and I am a new physical therapist here at Madden and Gilbert Physical Therapy! I recently graduated from Lebanon Valley College in May and moved back to my hometown of Hampstead, MD. Throughout my time at LVC I developed my passion for manual therapy and outpatient orthopedics. I love the variety of diagnoses and challenge orthopedics can present with.

Also during my time at LVC, I was involved in many different activities such as the dance team, swim team, physical therapy club, and a global ambassador after studying abroad in New Zealand. I additionally was an anatomy lab assistant for the class below me, and I continue to share my love of teaching through educating patients on their diagnoses!

My love for physical therapy began in high school when I took an anatomy course for the first time. I was so intrigued with the functions and processes of the human body, that my mom (former athletic trainer) suggested I observe her friend who was a physical therapist. After a few weeks of shadowing I decided to apply to LVC’s PT program along with my best friend (who fun fact is also named Taylor). After years of PT schooling, I can confidently say I made the right decision. I love getting to interact with patients all day as well as sharing my passion for overall wellness and conservative treatment methods!

Outside of the clinic you can find me doing a wide variety of activities! I have recently joined a pickleball league and started long distance running! I ran my first half marathon this September and would love to run a full marathon this time next year! I additionally love to travel and try new restaurants with my boyfriend, Josh, who is also a physical therapist! I love staying busy and spending time with friends and family any chance I get.

I am so excited to join both the profession and Madden and Gilbert team to help you return to activities that matter to YOU! I look forward to meeting and working with everyone!

Peter Juzwiak, PTA, PWR

Hello! My name is Peter Juzwiak, and I am a Physical Therapy Assistant here at Madden & Gilbert Physical Therapy in Shrewsbury. While I was raised in Dallastown, PA, I was born in Daegu (formally known as Taigu City) South Korea. I was adopted and came to the US when I was 4 months old. Growing up, I was very into sports which helped develop my interest in physical therapy. I played soccer, ice hockey, and lacrosse before committing to just ice hockey and lacrosse. I continued with lacrosse through high school and then went on to play a few years at the collegiate level before deciding to attend Physical Therapy Assistant school. In 2019, I graduated from Central Penn College and worked for outpatient orthopedic clinics in Harrisburg and Hanover, PA before joining Madden and Gilbert in January 2022.

While I enjoy treating orthopedic conditions, I have a special interest in neurological rehab, specifically Parkinson’s Disease. I have my certification in PWR! which stands for Parkinsons Wellness Recovery and have helped lead multiple seminars on Parkinsons. In PT, I address common symptoms of Parkinsons such as stooped posture, increased joint stiffness, slow movements, and impaired balance and walking. I love being able to help patients regain the function that Parkinsons tries to take away from them. The joy and happiness the patient gets when they achieve their goals is very rewarding.

When I am not in the clinic, you can usually find me watching sports and cheering for the Washington Capital, Baltimore Ravens, and Michigan State Spartans. I also love to spend time with friends, family, and my beautiful girlfriend Allison.

Veronica Harmon, DPT

Hi! My name is Veronica, and I am one of the physical therapists at Madden and Gilbert Physical Therapy in Shrewsbury. I grew up in the small town of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania but completed my college education in Annville, Pennsylvania. I attended Lebanon Valley College where I received both my Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and my Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.

Growing up, I found myself looking for anything to keep me busy and active, which led me to playing multiple sports, including soccer and basketball, as well as marching in my school’s drumline. With all this activity, I found myself surrounded by others constantly getting hurt and having to go through the rehabilitation process. I was always amazed by how well they recovered from their injuries with the help of physical therapy. I knew I always wanted to enter the medical field, and my desire to help others continue doing what they love led me to the PT field.

During my final clinical rotation of PT school at one of the Madden and Gilbert locations, I immediately fell in love with the work ethic, personal connections, and the manual, hands-on techniques that the company prioritized. I love the immediate response that manual therapy provides as well as the impact exercises can have in restoring function! I am so proud to be a part of the team in Shrewsbury, and look forward to helping this community reach their goals!

When I’m not at the clinic, I like to spend my time having game nights and spending time with my family and friends, keeping active by playing sports and working out, and trying local coffee shops.

Matt Conroy, DPT, COMT

Hello! My name is Matthew Conroy, but please call me Matt. I grew up in Philadelphia, PA but attended college and physical therapy school in central PA at Lebanon Valley College. At LVC I received my Doctorate of Physical Therapy and graduated at the top of my PT class as valedictorian and received the Academic Excellence Award.

I attended LVC for two reasons. First, they had a physical therapy program and second, I was recruited to play division 3 ice hockey. From the age of 10 ice hockey was my passion and the only thing I was interested in. From a very young age my parents and grandfather spent most weekends traveling up and down the east coast taking me to games and tournaments. It was actually an ice hockey injury that exposed me to physical therapy and peaked my interest in the profession. When I was 14 years old I had a severe lower back injury that occurred when I was hit from behind during a game. The injury was very painful and required extensive physical therapy. From proper rehab I was able to return to playing pain free and was able to have a successful college hockey career. It was that experience that got me interested in physical therapy and helped me make the decision to attend physical therapy school.

Since graduating from PT school I have developed a specific interest in manual therapy (what we call “Hands on PT”) to treat orthopedic injuries. I love how manual therapy can make immediate changes in my patients and show them that there is hope. I have continued to seek out and receive extensive training in physical therapy to be able to provide the best possible care to my patients. I am currently participating in a Fellowship program in manual therapy to further develop my skills.

Outside of the clinic, I spend most of my time with my family. I live in Timonium Maryland with my wife Lauren who is also a physical therapist. We have a son, Henry, daughter, Rosemary, and a dog, Gus, who keep us very busy.
